Rick Owens commented of his Spring / Summer 2011 collection, Anthem, "This was my safari." This coat seems a world away from a traditional safari jacket, but that's because the RICK OWENS version of a traditional style often bears little resemblance to the original. The flaps at the left and right shoulder vaguely resemble safari pockets, and there is another nod to safari details in the coat's waist panel, which seems to be a stripped back version of a safari belt. Otherwise, however, the coat is dominated by RICK OWENS signatures: the crisp, futuristic cotton fabric, dramatic asymmetrical zip, and concealed press studs at the sleeves.
The details and finishing are also of a very high standard. The fabric, which the tag describes as cotton is a crepe-like, almost scratchy material that feels incredible to the touch. The slash pockets are cut sharp, and the coat flares from the waist. The lining reveals several more common RICK OWENS details: a beautiful tapestry of different lining fabrics (almost matte in the body, more satin-esque through the sleeves for ease of movement), deep, hidden internal zip pockets, and a carrying strap joined into the sleeve seams. Finally, the garment tag suggests that the coat might be a sample of sorts, as some of the information, such as the fabric composition, is written rather being printed onto the tag.
